Yes. It is October. The month of giving thanks and scaring people. It is such a strange combination for us Canadians.
Many of you may have turned your furnaces on for the long chill and hopefully many of you have pulled out your cozy sweaters and slippers so you can use a bit less gas or electricity. I am looking forward to evenings in front of the fireplace with my favorite knitted items on and a new knit in my hot little hands. Oh! And Hot Chocolate too!
To help you with your winter projects Kniterary has a lot of new colourful, chunky yarns in for quick cowls and Mittens. Perfect Christmas Presents!
Classes for October include the #2 Beginner Classes for Knitting (Tuesday evenings) and Crochet (Wednesday evenings). These classes are almost full so if you or anyone you know wants to sign up do it quickly!
Also being offered in October is:
Lace Knitting Basics. Saturdays 10 AM – Noon Oct 17 start (3 weeks)
Knitting Hints and Tips Saturday Oct 17 – 1 PM – 3 PM
Slip Stitch Mitten Class (Sheehan Mittens) Saturdays Oct 24& 31 – 10 AM – Noon
Coming on November 7th the class 4 Ways to add Beads to your Knitting is being offered by Flo Flory. It is great introduction into the world of embellishing your projects with beads. The last class that took it here found it very informative and enjoyable!
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most of you know that I had my own brush with Breast Cancer this summer. Thankfully the lump was found early and was dispatched with quickly without the need for a Mastectomy. ( As I am writing this another dear knitting friend is not so lucky and is having her Mastectomy today. Please help surround her with healing energy.)
I have found that I want to give to those who have not been as lucky as me. To this end I have contacted Knitted Knockers of Canada and have become a drop off point for anyone who would like to knit these soft, comfortable and light weight prosthetics for donation. These items are in turn made available for free to anyone in Canada who needs one. Go to the link and read more.
I have the suggested yarn (Cascade Ultra Pima) for sale and soon the drop off box will be here as well.
I am Thankful for all the support I received during my lumpectomy and radiation. I am Thankful I have come out the other end healthy. Let us help those who need the support even more than I did.
